A Message from the Mayor
A Message from Dave Mayer
As I take office as Mayor, I want to thank the residents of Gloucester Township for giving me the opportunity to serve our community. I would also like to thank Mayor Cindy Rau-Hatton and Councilwoman Shelley Lovett for their service. And I welcome Frank Schmidt, Michelle Gentek, and Dan Hutchison to the Township Council.
Gloucester Township is a great place to live and work. That is why seventy thousand people choose to call this great community their home. While the future of this township is bright, we must address the current challenges brought by the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.
People are losing their jobs and families are cutting their budgets so that they can make their next mortgage payment. Government is not the solution to all problems, but it can do less to compound the problems faced by people. It must continue to provide vital services to our residents with greater efficiency and less resources. With your cooperation, participation and frankly help, I will work with members of the Township Council to achieve that goal.
I understand that over the years people have lost touch and confidence in government. We can change that by bringing greater accountability, transparency and community involvement. In the coming days, I will be discussing ideas with the residents to bring about greater financial discipline in government operations. These ideas can help lessen the future property tax burden of homeowners. Further, I will be presenting proposals to increase public safety, generate economic growth in the township and consolidate government services to bring about efficiency.
As stakeholders in the future of the township, all of us have an obligation to work together to build a better and affordable place for our families to live and prosper. I will work everyday as your Mayor to make that goal a reality.
Sincerely,
Dave Mayer
