2025 US Flag Retirement Ceremony

Mayor David R. Mayer, Township Council, and the Gloucester Township Office of Veterans Affairs invite the community to a solemn and dignified Flag Retirement Ceremony. This special event honors the proper disposal of retired American flags in accordance with tradition and reverence for our nation’s symbol. Join us as we pay tribute to our flag and those who have served under it. Following the ceremony, guests are welcome to enjoy a complimentary barbecue.

Flags that have been disposed of at our flag drop boxes will be the flags that are being retired at the ceremony on April 11th. Feel free to bring your own flags to retire the day of the ceremony.

Information Regarding Flag Drop Boxes:

On June 14, 2021, in partnership with local township Veterans’ organizations, Mayor David Mayer and Chief of Gloucester Township Police David Harkins revealed flag disposal boxes at three locations in Gloucester Township:

  • Camden County College
  • Veteran’s Park
  • Community Park by Veterans’ Memorial

The flag drop-off boxes are meant to serve as safe, secure retirement of worn flags for Gloucester Township community and are a convenient way of disposing while respecting our national symbol.

Flags should be folded respectfully before being placed in the box.
