What is The Gloucester Township Field of Dreams?

A place where any person no matter what their disability is, will have a chance to play baseball. Everybody deserves a chance to play a sport with their friends. Here at the Field of Dreams, we make their dreams come true.

Our 4th Annual Season will begin in April 2023. All games are held at the Gloucester Township Field of Dreams located at the Valleybrook Sports Complex, 247 Little Gloucester Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012. Who can participate in this league?

Every child and adult, no matter his or her level of baseball talent can participate in the Gloucester Township Field of Dreams. The Gloucester Township Field of Dreams is made up of two divisions of varying ability and age.

Where are the games being played and when?

All games are played on the Gloucester Township Field of Dreams located at 247 Little Gloucester Road in Valleybrook. League games will take place on Saturdays. After 4/23 games will begin at 11:00am.

How is the game played? How long is the game?

Typically each game will last 60 minutes. The games are non-competitive in nature, with each player batting, running the bases, and scoring each inning. Volunteers called “Buddies” will be assigned to each individual to assist throughout the game. There are no losers in this game, only winners with the scored tied at the end of each game. 100 % of the focus is more on participating in the game than on winning.

What does the player need to bring?

Before the beginning of each season, every participant will receive a shirt and a hat that is to be worn at each game. They should bring with them a baseball glove to be used during the game. A concession stand is located near the field and ADA compliant restroom facilities.

What are the Buddies and their responsibilities?

Each player will have a “Buddy” at each game. The Buddy is there to protect the player from balls, assist the player in batting and running the bases and to be a friend on and off the field. Depending on the availability and number of Buddies, the plan is to have them assigned to the same child for the whole season. They are expected to arrive 30 minutes prior to the game. Buddies start at the age of 12. The siblings, parents, relatives, and friends of the players are eligible to be Buddies.

What does the Gloucester Township Field of Dreams look like?

The Gloucester Township Field of Dreams is totally handicapped accessible. It has a synthetic surface that will allow easy use of wheelchairs and walkers.

How can I Volunteer?

The Gloucester Township Field of Dreams needs a variety of volunteers to organize and play games. A typical game needs 30 volunteers to be able to play. Volunteers are needed to be managers, coaches, Buddies, umpires, and team parents. For more information please email Michael Mignone at mmignone@glowtp.com

Are there registration fees?

There is no nominal fee, the league will utilize fundraising, and to play is FREE! We welcome donations to help with the costs of operating the league, the uniforms and equipment. No child will be turned away because of an inability to pay.
