As the cool autumn breeze comes in, we start looking forward to cozy sweater-weather and all things pumpkin and spice. Just because summer is behind us does not mean that outdoor activities are through! Gloucester Township has a host of festive fall activities planned – all-times favorites as well as some exciting new events!
Our fall schedule kicks off on September 14th with our 7th annual Drive-In Movie Night at Camden County College. The highly anticipated free family event is a GT crowd pleaser with its hayrides, food trucks, games, and, of course, an action-packed movie. This year’s feature is Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
In addition to the recent opening of the Gloucester Township Veterans Office, I am cordially inviting our town veterans to a BBQ on September 21st at Veterans Park. This a great opportunity to introduce our VA Coordinators to the town veterans that they will serve and to become acquainted with the challenges they face in hopes of connecting them with beneficial resources. To honor their sacrifices and bravery, we will be hosting a Veteran’s Medal Ceremony on October 5th at Community Park. So far over 400 resident veterans have signed up. If you haven’t registered yet, you can do so on the municipal website or by calling my office!
Next up on the list is the 31st annual Pumpkin Festival on October 6th. Weaved into the historic Downtown Blackwood section of the town, this popular fall event attracts thousands of visitors and 200+ vendors. The festival features tasty food options, pumpkin decorating contests, and the talents of the Mainstage Center for the Arts by Harwan Park.
Join us on October 12th at our Citizens Appreciation Ceremony as we honor GT’s accomplished residents for their volunteerism and dedication to helping others and making a positive impact. If you know someone who you feel deserves this accolade nomination forms are on our website.
Keep your schedule open for October 19th as we host our fifth Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival. Hosted by the Gloucester Township Economic Development Partnership Corporation and the Gloucester Township Day Scholarship Committee, this event features over 20 food trucks, a beer garden, and musical acts. It has become a popular fall occasion with proceeds going to scholarships benefiting our High School seniors.
Join us for a spooktacular evening of Halloween fun at our Trunk-or-Treat on October 25th! Residents are invited to dress up in their favorite costumes and enjoy a safe and festive night of trunk-or-treating from creatively decorated car trunks!
Get your Christmas shopping done and fill up on holiday cheer at our 3rd annual Gloucester Township Christmas Village on December 14th at Veterans Park! This open-air holiday market will offer unique Christmas décor and thoughtful gifts along with Christmas carols, hot chocolate and cookies. Even the Grinch himself will have a hard time not feeling the spirit of Christmas on this occasion! Food trucks, free Carousel and Dizzy Dragon rides and even a visit from Santa himself will start your season off right. The ceremonial tree lighting will take place at dusk.
I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season! Please reach out to my office should you have any questions, concerns, or need any assistance.
Sincerely,
David Mayer
