GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. –
The summer sun will definitely come in handy for one local community thanks to a new solar park.
On Friday, July 14th, officials in Gloucester Township got together for the grand opening of the new Timber Creek Solar Park.
The new park, owned and operated by Marina Energy L.L.C., consists of more than 10,000 solar panels and is estimated to produce more than four million kilowatt hours per year.
Township officials and residents are thrilled about the park and are enthusiastic about continuing to play a prominent role in protecting the environment.
“Seven years ago we created an energy master plan for the entire township that consisted of a variety of different projects, and one of them was solar,” said David Mayer, the Gloucester Twp. mayor. “So, we concentrated on reducing our energy consumption, saving tax payers money, but also improving our environment. [It’s] just another commitment that we have to sustainability here in Gloucester Township.”
The solar park will bring in an additional $830,000 in revenue for Gloucester Twp., coming from lease payments made by Marina Energy.
